Whale watching season in Punta del Este appears to be extremely variable. Sometimes they arrive in June, like last year, sometimes in September. In any case, yesterday the first ones were sighted in Jose Ignacio.
Be on the lookout for them along the entire coast of Punta del Este. They particularly like the area on the Mansa beach around Paradas 20 to 30, more or less. Also the Portezuelo Bay, from Punta Ballena all the way to Punta Negra.
They come extremely close to the shore, so it´s not uncommon to see people watching them from their parked cars along the Rambla, no binoculars needed. Enjoy.
